I moved to Northmoor forty five years ago.
Our house was built on the site of the old brickworks, which was surrounded by the rest of the houses that were here, and I think most of them were occupied by people working in the brickworks. It was a very local business and lots of clay pits around in this area were used to provide the raw materials for the bricks. That closed, I believe, somewhere around 1930.
There is a village near Sakardu, near the Indian border, called Siksa. I was born and grew up there. In the region of Baltistan and in our village, the literacy rate is 100%. The first high school opened there in 1964 and so my village was very well educated.
